Day 3: Blueberry Girl and Greens
I'm definitely not drinking enough water and normally my body lets me get away with it but now it's screaming. Maybe it's because I'm eating less salt and so my body is retaining less water. *shrugs shoulders*
In any case, today I feel like the girl in Willy Wonks and the Chocolate factory that ate the blueberry gum and literally bloated up like a huuuuuge balloon. You don't remember her? Sure you do…watch this clip.
That brought back fond memories. Those Umpa Loompas crack me up every time. Anyway, I bring up the blueberry girl because, we all know that greens are good for you but apparently they can also bloat you so here I am feeling like I'm carrying an air baby. According to the interwebs, greens like broccoli and kale (which my lunch largely consisted of) have a sugar called raffinose that remains undigested till the bacteria in your gut ferment it, which produces gas and makes you bloat. Isn't that fun? Kinda reminds me of another type of bloating aka being filled with pride.
What often fills me with pride are good things like the neighborhood I live in, the job I have, the color of my skin, the intelligence - you know, good things. And those good things that are good for me then interact with things in the depths of who I am and bubble up till I'm filled with pride. It's not the things themselves that are the issue. Nor is it the things inside of me. In fact I'm often unaware of said things until I detect pride and have to be sent to the juicing room like the blueberry girl to be deflated (getting rid of pride is usually a painful but necessary process because in this case, pride comes before a pop!)
So, I'm spending the rest of the evening reflecting on the things I've be prideful about this month and this week I'll practice being grateful for those things instead.
I also decided I didn’t need any more greens for the day so here is dinner: mushroom bolognese and zucchini “pasta.”
